My daughter is 14 years old and is in competitive gymnastics. She recently has been complaining about low back pain. Often in gymnastics, they push through the pain. Should I encourage her to just keep going to practice in hopes that it will go away since she is so young?

It is in your daughter’s best interest to make sure that her spine is healthy prior to returning to practice to avoid future problems. There is a possibility, due to her gymnastics, that she could have a spondylolysis, or a type of vertebral stress fracture. It is best to rule this out prior to her returning to practice.
