When will doctors start using computers and scans in operating rooms to decrease the number of mistakes they make?

Doctors, as with all humans, do make mistakes from time to time. When a surgeon makes a mistake, the results can be devastating. As a result, surgeries have strict protocols and regimens geared towards avoiding mistakes as much as possible. Computers and scanning equipment, such as computed tomography scans, are being used in hospital operating rooms and are becoming more common place, depending on the type of surgery being done. In some cases, scanning isn't necessary. However, some surgeries, such as repairing spines by inserting hardware, scanning is providing a good extra tool for surgeons to be sure that what they are implanting is going into the proper place and in the proper way.
