I am a 25 year old runner and have had deep, aching hip pain that won’t resolve.  I was to the point where I could not put weight through my leg.  My surgeon says that I have “nontraumatic femoral head necrosis” but that the lesion is small.  Does this mean I will need a total hip replacement in the future?

According to the latest research, small lesions stand a good chance of proper healing with alternative measures like a decompression, bone graft, or osteotomy. Your surgeon should be able to offer further advice on these options. However, should you require a total hip replacement, that the success rate and patient satisfaction rate are high.
