I'm going to have surgery on my back and my doctor said he would be using implants. What type of implants do they use and how do they work?

If you need to have a spinal fusion, usually rods and screws are used to help stabilize the area. In fact, the implants act like splints, increasing the chances of the surgery being a success.

The types of screws and rods that your doctor chooses to use will depend on which he or she is most comfortable using and what they will be used for.
