My mother has osteoporosis and is getting fractures in her back. Could she fracture her neck?

People with osteoporosis, or thinning of the bones, can break the vertebrae, or bones, in the spine. Sometimes they break because of a fall or injury, but they can break on their own if they are thin enough. Although any vertebrae are at risk, the fractures do happen more often in the upper back area, where you can see the "humped back" shape.
