Can a strand of hair really cause enough damage to hurt a child's toe if it's wrapped around it? I read a story about it but it seems a bit far-fetched. Hair?

Hair is amazingly strong - try taking a strand of your hair and snapping it in half. Unless you have very brittle or fragile hair, you'll likely find this a difficult thing to do. When babies are young, they have a surprising high exposure to loose hair. It's not unusual for a new mom to lose significant amounts of hair during the post-partum period and the longer the hair, the higher the risk of getting wrapped around a baby's delicate toe. And, perhaps surprisingly, sometimes the hair that wraps around is from the baby itself, not a parent or someone else.
