Radiofrequency (RF) has a low rate (1%) of post-operative complications. A local anesthesia is used so there are fewer overall risks. Most patients have a good result with immediate relief from their chronic low back pain.

When problems do occur, it may be only temporary. The patient may have pain, numbness, or a burning sensation. These symptoms can affect the back, buttocks, and leg on one side. More rarely, muscle weakness can occur.
