FAQOur first grandchild was born last week. At the baby's first well-child check-up today, the pediatrician noticed a problem with the hip maybe not being in the socket all the way. For now, my daughter is just double diapering him. But if that doesn't work, then what? How long does it take to turn around a problem like this? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQWe are heading into unknown territory for us. Even with three other children, we've never had a child with this problem: developmental dysplasia of the hips. No one else in the family has ever had this that we know of. Both hips are affected. What are the chances for this child of still developing a normal hip? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI heard a report on the news that you shouldn't hold a child on your lap while going down a playground slide. Why not? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQWhat's the best treatment for chondrolysis of the knee? I've been diagnosed with this problem and I'm searching for some solutions. It may be related to an ACL repair I had done two years ago. Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQThe kids are down for a nap so I can get this off to you quickly. We had a mishap on the playground today. My eight-year-old daughter was holding our toddler while coming down the slide. I was at the bottom to catch them. But the toddler's foot got stuck up against the side of the slide. He was screaming by the time they got to the bottom. I can't see anything wrong but I thought I heard a pop when it happened. Should I take him in for an X-ray or just wait and see how he is after the nap? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI'm not a super athlete but I do like to compete in several areas such as soccer, cross country, and tennis. I notice whenever it's soccer season, I seem to have the most problem with my patellar tendon. I keep tweaking it and it never heals all season long. This doesn't happen with any of the other sports I engage in. Can you help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQBelieve it or not, I have gone through rehab three times now for a weak (or easily injured) Achilles tendon. My wife says just have surgery and be done with it. I'm not convinced surgery is the answer. What do you think? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQCan you tell us what chondrolysis is? All we know is that our 21-year-old daughter has this after a previous ACL injury. It's putting an end to her basketball career. Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI am now the proud "owner" of an artificial disc. It's in my low back around L4. I've been told not to jump (or fall) from tall buildings or use a jackhammer 24/7. All joking aside, I understand the reason for caution. But just how durable are these devices? Could it really break if I fell on my back, for example or stepped in a hole unexpectedly and went down? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQMy wife is off work with a burst fracture of the spine. She only works part-time, so she doesn't have any sick leave. I lost my job six weeks ago, so this really puts us in a financial bind. How long does an injury like this take to heal? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI've damaged several discs in my spine so badly now, they can't repair themselves. I only have replacement or fusion as an option. If I go with the fusion, I know I'll lose some motion there but it will be a solid support. If I go with the fusion, is there any give or shock absorption? Will the implant hold up as well as a fusion? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQWhat's a graded functional rehab program for a spine fracture? That's what I'm headed for in the next few weeks. I kind of wanted to know what I'm getting into with this. Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI've had so many friends who had a spinal fusion for disc problems or slipped vertebra. Not one has had any problems. Then my brother had the surgery and it was nothing but problems with infection and kidney failure. We almost lost him. No one seems to know what happened. Maybe it doesn't matter now but I can't help but wonder what really went on in that hospital. Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI've seen two surgeons (one orthopedic surgeon, one neurosurgeon) about my back pain. They both agree my problem is something called degenerative spondylolisthesis. What they don't agree on is how to treat it. The orthopedic surgeon thinks my age and general health are against me. The neurosurgeon is willing to operate as soon as it can be scheduled. I don't know which way to go. Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQPlease, please help me figure out what to do. I've had some nerve tests that show moderate carpal tunnel syndrome. I'm self-insured, so trying to pick the least expensive path with the best results. My choices are therapy with splinting and exercises or surgery straight away. Therapy is less expensive unless I end up having surgery anyway. Should I just toss a coin and pick one? Is there any logic to this decision? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI've heard that if I wait to have my carpal tunnel surgery done until I'm on Medicare, it will cost less. That's two years away. Is it worth the wait? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI am a solo and independent roofer, so I don't have Worker's Compensation. Last month, I fell from a ladder and broke my heel badly enough to need surgery. Without disability insurance or Worker's Comp, I'm on my own to get better and get back to work. What are my chances of recovery after an injury like this? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI am trying to be a good health care consumer by requesting copies of my medical reports and reading them. Last month, I had carpal tunnel release surgery. I understand everything in the surgeon's report except one phrase: nerve coverage with an interposition technique. Can you explain this to me? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI had a carpal tunnel release surgery that didn't do the trick. I still have hand pain and thumb and finger numbness. The surgeon wants to go back in and repeat the procedure. If it didn't work the first time, what guarantee do I have that it will work a second time? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI fell off a simple step stool and busted my heel into four parts. I heard the surgeon say I was lucky it wasn't the result of a car accident. What difference would that make? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI've heard that you can get fibromyalgia from being a victim of child abuse. Is this really true? Both my sister and I grew up in a violent home. She has fibromyalgia, but I don't. Does this mean I will eventually come down with it? Matt010 weeks 1 day ago
