FAQCan you help me understand a neck injury my husband got from a horseback riding accident? The surgeon says it's a moderately severe fracture of C34 and surgery is needed. They won't be able to tell until they do surgery how unstable it is. What makes a fracture moderately severe and/or unstable? I didn't really want to ask too many questions in front of my husband in case it's worse than we thought. Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQI seem to be able to manage my chronic low back pain with Oxycontin. The pain is tolerable and I'm able to put in my three shifts a week at work. My doctor says I'm not improving and would like to see me get off the drugs. Isn't not getting worse an acceptable result? I'm happy with it, but I can't seem to get that across to the doc. What do you suggest? Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQMy 16-year-old son has a cervical spine fracture rated as a three on a score called the CSISS. Can you explain this to me? The surgeon showed us the X-rays and went over everything. I am a nurse, so I do understand anatomy but I'll admit I was in a state of shock at the time. Most of it went right by me. Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQAfter six years of suffering with low back pain with no known cause, my doctor tells me I'm just going to have to learn to live with the pain. That's just not acceptable to me. Are there any other options for people like me? Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQI have about six weeks to devote to exercise before starting a work-training program for people with low back pain who want to get back on the job. Should I go for Pilates or yoga? I keep hearing my friends say, "Oh you should go to Pilates" or "Oh you have got to try yoga". I can't do both. Which one works best? Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQMy counselor has suggested I try yoga to help with my back pain and my depression. I don't really know where or how to get started. I know there are different kinds of yoga. Which one works best for these two problems? Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQI can't decide if I should or shouldn't have carpal tunnel surgery. I'm worried I won't be able to get my work done at home or at work. But I'm also aware that there are quite a few things I'm not doing very well because of the pain and numbness. How do other people make this decision? Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQI've been all over the United States looking for someone who can tell me what's wrong with my back. I've had tests and tests and tests with no positive findings. No matter what I try, it doesn't seem to give me lasting pain relief. Please tell me where I can go to get the help I need. Matt08 weeks 2 days ago
FAQMy mother has a million and one reasons why she can't have surgery for her carpal tunnel syndrome. None of them really seem to add up to me. How can we tell if she's just afraid to have surgery or if there's some other reason for her hesitation? Matt08 weeks 2 days ago

FAQI confess I'm not much for exercise, so when I was diagnosed with snapping scapula syndrome, I skipped the surgeon's recommendation for physical therapy and just took the antiinflammatory pills. But six weeks later and I'm still not any better really. Maybe if I knew what was involved with therapy, I might be more motivated to go. What can you tell me? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI found a few things on the Internet about something called snapping scapular syndrome. Most of what I found was on your site. What else can you tell me about this problem? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQMy 12-year-old son broke his elbow in a weird sort of way -- the round end of his upper arm (where it meets the elbow) broke. It wasn't until a week later that we finally realized something was wrong and took him to the doctor. By that time, there was a big bump visible along the outside of his elbow. The doctor thinks it was a fracture that got worse over time and separated. Since he wasn't treated until a week had gone by, will this affect the results? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQThree months ago, I broke my elbow playing softball (I'm 14-years-old). It was a break in the round bottom part of the upper arm bone. It wasn't just a simple break though. The ends of the bone separated, so I had to have surgery to pin the two sides back together. I'm out of the cast now by six weeks, and I'm noticing a big bump along the outside of my elbow where the break was. What is this? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI'm not one to leap without looking first. So, I'm looking into what other people have to say about braces that older adults can wear who have unicompartmental arthritis (that's what I have). I understand these come in a standard off-the-shelf variety or for more money, I can have one custom made. What do you recommend? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQFor a long time, I had plantar fasciitis. But then things took a turn for the worse and the plantar fascia actually ruptured. I'm going back to see the doc in two weeks. Should I ask for a steroid injection? Would it help things heal faster? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQWhat can you tell me about recovery after surgery for a chronically dislocating kneecap? How long will I be laid up? Will I need to use crutches? Will I be able to drive? I'm not in terrible shape, but I'm not exactly a running back either. Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI am a runner -- I put in 60 to 80 miles a week and run two to three marathons each year. Lately, I've started to have some heel pain on both sides. I've tried everything I know how to get rid of this. I bought new shoes, I tried heel cups and shoe inserts. I did take two weeks off. The pain never really went away and then it got worse when I added running back in. What's the next step? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
FAQI'm a "young" 67-year-old, with knee arthritis but not ready for the knife yet. And only one side of my knee is a problem anyway, so I'm not looking for a joint replacement yet -- not even those half joint replacements my surgeon told me about. I've seen other folks even older than me wearing a knee brace while out on the golf course or tennis court. Would anything like this help a guy like me? Matt09 weeks 1 day ago
