FAQI work with athletes at the college level (usually freshman just coming into our program). I notice our students have a lot of knee pain after the first semester. The training schedule is much more rigorous than they were used to in high school, so that might be why. I did some digging around and found that military cadets (also at the freshman level) seem to have fewer of these problems. FAQI understand that a disc replacement is a better option than a fusion because it saves the motion in the spine. But if I have a disc replacement, do I get my full motion back? I'm not sure how much motion I have now. I'm hardly moving at all because there's so much pain. Matt01 day 11 hours ago
FAQI just came back from the doctor's where I got the news that my lumbar spine motion is the same after spinal fusion as before. But I thought the fusion was supposed to stop motion. The surgeon did say the fusion site looks good and that the surgery was successful. I didn't think of this at the time to ask the question and, of course, my next appointment isn't for six months. FAQI'm doing a little research on a problem I've developed over the years called spinal stenosis. I've had X-rays and MRIs and they could find nothing to account for my back and leg pain. I finally had exploratory surgery. Lo and behold they discovered cysts had formed inside the ligament inside my spinal canal. Once they took them out, I was perfectly fine. Is this a common problem? FAQMy 72-year-old father had surgery to remove some cysts from inside his spine. The pathology report just came in the mail today. It described them as synovial cysts with intraligamentous bursal communicating channels connected to the facet joint at the L3-4 level. Evidently, they were taking up space inside the spinal canal putting pressure on the nerves and causing a heck of a lot of back and leg pain. What are these cysts and what causes them? FAQI had to have the meniscus removed from my left knee due to severe damage. I've been told about the dangers of arthritis developing. Can anything be done to prevent this? Matt01 day 11 hours ago
