Ligament Reconstruction Surgery with a wrist fushion
Posted April 5th, 2008 by joanneI have a fushion of the left wrist and the only joint that is mobile is the cmc joint. I have severe pain in that joint and my doctor has suggested a ligament reconstruction with tendon interpostion of the 1st cmc joint surgery. I do have arthrisit in that area as well. I am left handed which also causes problems.
I am wondering if this may harm me more, or if this will limit my range of motion. I need to know what the recovery period my be. I truely just want the pain to "go away."

labral tear hip joint
Posted April 4th, 2008 by procheLast year I had a left hip labral repair done. I was experiencing trouble with sitting for periods of time, sleeping, running, and was painfull with exercise especially pushing off the wall with a swim turn. The sugery went well and I felt better for awhile. Now the same symptoms are coming back. I went to another Dr. and the angiogram done on the hip is suggestive of a labral tear. Is it possible to have a tear twice?

Broken ankle and bad heart
Posted March 12th, 2008 by Wendy ParryMy mother in law fell and broke her ankle in three places. All breaks are compound fractures, but they did not break the skin. Due to heart issues, the doctors will not clear her for surgery. We are being told she is able to go for 7 days without surgery. The question which no one can answer for us is what happens if her heart is not able to take the surgery?
Has anyone experience this issue?

finger injury
Posted March 11th, 2008 by football playeri hurt my finger playing flag football. once i pulled the flag, i landed on the ground and jammed my finger into the ground. once i looked at my finger i notice the tip was bend 45 degrees backwards. after researching the closes injury i could find was mallet finger. i assume this is a different injury since my finger is bent the opposite way. any ideas or suggestions? thanks.

finger operation
Posted March 7th, 2008 by Richard YatesI severely fractured the middle joint of my little finger last year. the surgeon placed 6 pins and a plate in the join to repair the farcture. After 3 months he re-operated to remove the pins and extend the tendons.
Now the finger is still fractured in one spot and completely dislocated. he now advises I shold fuse the joint together.
Was it good advice to perform the second surgery after only 3 months? other doctors I have spoken to advise that the minimum amount of time should be between 6-12 months.

Hip pain caused by hardware
Posted February 28th, 2008 by bethbartonHello. I am new to this site and have a question regarding my 8 year old daughter with cerebral palsy. She had varus derotational osteotomy surgery last year and had pins & plates to secure her thin bones. We are concerned she may be having pain from the hardware, due to her slender build. Does anyone have any input as to how long pins should be in and any testing that can be done to confirm placement of hardware and it's potential for pain?
Thank you,
Beth Barton

Hello
Posted February 21st, 2008 by jestabI am a second rotation surgical tech student who is very interested in Orthopedics. Just joined this site to help with a case study I am doing for class. I am hopefully writing about a lumbar laminectomy. I have scrubbed in on more than one of these and they are quite interesting. Wish me luck!
