Trochanteric Bursitis
I am a 20 year old female and I fracutred my pelvis while I was in the US Army. I was told they were "marching fractures." I have had problems with my hips ever since the fractures have healed. I have seen 3 different doctors, two of which urged me to get some sort of surgery and the one I saw today who was a hip specialist told me what I knew six months ago - that I have trochanteric bursitis. The surgeon said he refused to do a surgery for bursitis because the surgery doesn't help. I have extreme constant pain with any movement, have to use a forearm crutch at times so I can walk. My hips also snap and pop and I feel a grinding sensation. My MRI came out normal - my xray showed that my hip ball joint was "slightly elliptical" but otherwise normal... My question is - are there any other things that could be wrong with me? Being in the armed forces I developed a high pain tolerance, is bursitis really that painful? What can I do to decrease the pain? My doctors refuse to give me pain medication. Anyone know anything about the success / downfalls of surgery on hip bursitis?
