I just had arthroscopic surgery to fix the above mentioned injury. My follow up is next week and have not spoken to my doc yet, but know the procedure it was a success.

Wondering if anyone in here or someone reading this has happened to them or similar. Interested in recovery time - I've read so much online I don't know what to believe, but at the same understand that there are many factors that effect that: age, length of time of injury before surgery, every person heals differently, etc.

I'm a very active late 30's male and injured my shoulder during a rugby match...I of course want to expedite rehab and do everything possible to get back to my regular activities - I don't want to wait six months before I can lift again or train for example. Are there any weekend warriors out there or athletes in general that can offer any information? It will be much appreciated and thanks in advance.
I want to heal fast basically - without going the steroid route. Right now, no pain at all save the surgery day this past Monday (8/18/08). And the surgical portals are looking fine no oozing in that department, too.

Best,
Ty

The best thing you can do is

The best thing you can do is actually do the rehab. Most folks that really want to get back quick and have drive are succesful. Let me stress something to you though, you mentioned steroids. That would be a BIG NO. Steroids weaken tendons hence you would be more likely to re-rupture the cuff. Go the natural route with full effort and you should be good to go in 3-6 months.
