Knee-replacement and associated numbness and weakness in the index and pinky fingers of the left hand

My mother recently had knee-replacement surgery on both knees. A short while after, she felt severe pains in both her shoulders shooting down her hands. Now she is left with numbness and weakness in her pinky and index fingers of the left hand and she isn't able to straighten her fingers. She is still recovering from the knee operation. The right knee feels normal. However, she feels a slight obsruction and heaviness in her left knee when she walks.
