Joint pain where big toe meets metatarsals
A few days ago the joint where my big toe and the metatarsals meet began to ache. I don't recall stubbing my toe, though it's perfectly possible. I haven't been running or doing any kind of heavy exercise lately.
Now I have limited movement; it is painful to try and flex the toe upwards, though downwards isn't nearly as bad. Also, putting weight on the ball of my foot is very painful. The pain is consistent, and only disperses when I take aspirin and put ice on it.
Is it possible that this is a sprain and will resolve itself in time, or should I go to a doctor? The only reason I haven't gone thus far is because my husband and I are in a bit of a financial crunch, and our insurance policy has a very liberal view of what is and isn't covered. X-rays for example are NOT covered.
Any suggestions?
