Foot injury - now 16 weeks down the line and nomprovement
Hi
I have had a foot injury when a colleague stepped on my foot as we were rescuscitating a patient, resullting in forced plantarflexion and inversion. There was diffuse swelling and pain between the medial malleolus and the tibialis posterior tendon and very painful inversion of the foot. Xrays were normal and I was reassured that things will settle. I was reviewed again in 3 weeks by the orthopods who wondered about tibialis posterior tendinopathy but MRI was reported as minimal oedema. Looking at the amount of pain and swelling, they decided to put me into 8 weeks of weight-bearing cast. It did help with the pain.
After removal of the cast, swelling has gradually declined and the pain is now localised just medial to tibialis anterior tendon. Foot inversion is still extremely painful. I have lost complete balance of my foot when trying to stand on one foot. I stand with my foot turned outward and walk with a significant limp. Physiotherapy makes no difference.
Just met orthopod again and asked how long to heal - reply - How long is a piece of string? He has recommended steroid injection for the pain which I am waiting on to happen.
Any ideas as to the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis, please?
Thanks in advance.
