Knee cap pain
Please Help , I have had knee cap pain in both knees for many years (used to be a long distance runner and still play netball), but the pain has become chronic in the last 10 months'
I consulted my doctor, and to date I have had injections, the kneecaps taped and physiotherapy with daily exercises to improve VMO.
The pain did not improve so I was referred to an orthopaedic surgeon who has given me a diagnosis of chondromalacia patellae, and that the kneecaps are also misaligned ,the consultant told me to get on with my life and put up with the pain and stop playing netball. He is arranging for me to have MRI scans
I am now struggling with everyday activities and unable to go to work as I can not drive or sit at my desk, I am 43 and do not want to put up with this pain for the rest of my life.
Should I get a second opinion, my own doctor is totally behind me and agrees that there must be something that can be done.
Has anyone else got this condition and what did you do if all conservative measures failed. Thanks

I am a 44 year old runner, was running 30 miles a week, while coaching a soccer match I kneeled down most of the match. Later that day it started hurting, no swelling but it got worse and worse. After a month of ice etc went to doc and they said chondromalacia patellae and arthritis. Went to therapy but each session brought more pain. Fast forward 9 months....
One of my many brothers 49 years old does a lot of triatholons now, but before that he could not run more than 3 miles every other day because of pain in knee, and told me I was stupid for running half marathons.
My brother started getting regular massage of the lower legs and the therapist told him his calves were very tight as well as I guess it is the anterior tibilias.
After about 9 months of my own pain found a tender spot on my anterior tilibias and started self massaging it and and my calves. The pain went away and I could run again, thought I have been getting lazy and fat... BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS I HAVE NO PAIN and I have regained some musle mass.
GET A GOOD COUPLE MASSAGES OF YOUR LEGS AND THEN SEE IF THE PAIN SUBSIDES...
