Wrist Pain

For 5 years i have had wrist pain in both wrist with a lump on the top of both. The ortho dr. I was seeing said they were ganglion and drained them 3 times with shots of cortisone. The dr.. is now retiring and has referred me to another ortho about surgery. I went and had a MRI and xrays, I went to the new dr and we went over my symptoms: pain in the wrist, numbing, cold fingers, unable to write turn knobs, constant nagging pain. This new dr. says that there is nothing on the xrays or MRI. His diagnoses for the bumps were fat??? and that I have unexplained wrist pain, which he prescribes physical therapy and keep bandaged. The problem is I have had to quit my job because I cant do the job that I was doing. Anyone got any suggestions?

Wrist pain

Sounds exactly like what I went through for many years. What has now been diagnosed as Psoriatic arthritis was at first thought to be carpel tunnel, then several doctors didn't know exactly what it was, then as rheumatoid arthritis and finally as Psoriatic arthritis. I want though periods where X-Rays and MRI's showed little damage to the wrist although I was in severe pain whenever I bumped the wrist, turned a screwdriver, shook hands etc. Finally I had a Bone Scan. My wrist looked like a dental X-ray of a dental filling. I then watched an orthopedic and rheumatologist ague back and forth about what I had because the blood tests came up negative for RH. Finally a new doctor went over my history of also having ankle and foot tendon problems without any associated trauma and diagnosed me with PA. I have only rarely had a skin rash and for only short periods on one elbow. Thought it was just a rash from a yard chemical.

Hopes this helps. Charlie

re: wrist pain

Thanks for the reply it gives some information to go on, I have had skin problems as long as I can remember, skin on fingers crack palms of hands peel. I have had also other joint problems just never brought them up to my dr because just thought they were overworked. This ortho dr. is sending me to physical therapy for my wrist because it doesnt know what is wrong with them. so i guess i will see how that goes, then bring this up to him at the next appointment. Thanks again

Do some research online for Psoriatic Arthritis. Tells you a lot, especially how it affects the tendons and not so much the bones. Also there is no test for Psoriatic Arthritis.
Email me at mr3putter@comcast.net and let me know how things work out.

similar symptoms

oh my! this sounds very similar to what I've been going through! ..and charlie, now that I read what you say....I have also had red rashes occasionally, on the tops of my fingers...not very often - maybe a handful of times......i wonder if this is what I have as well?

I had posted my symptoms in a new discussion:

http://www.eorthopod.com/public/patient_education/10175/wrist_lump_and_p...

I will definitely bring this up next week. How are both of you doing? What kind of treatments are you trying? I am trying to get pregnant, so will be unable to do anything really, I'm assuming.....does it get better?
