Posterior Tibial Tendon Rupture

I recently tore my posterior tibial tendon resulting from over-aggressive professional physical therapy (on or about March 6th), following a surgery attempt to regenerate the same partially torn tendon using topaz injections (?) back in December. I visited a podiatrist for surgery measures, but he is not appearing to want to move quickly to initiate surgery. My foot /ankle is currently inside a boot (with an orthotic arch underneath my foot). I am 37 years old, in great health, and am concerned that the longer I wait, the more chance it has of becoming stiff and developing flat-foot deformity, thus making the surgery more difficult.

Do I have good reason for my concern ?

I guess, I would say repairing the tendon sooner than later is the way to go.
I don't know why but doctors want to try all the conservative measures first before surgery, but surgery seems to be the only sure way to fully recovered.
I walked around in a soft brace and then orthotics for 4months this winter, and just had the surgery to repair the tear, July 1st. Now I am in a cast and then will go to a boot next, being non wt. bearing.
I just wish I would've done this sooner because I too, am athletic, and am also concerned about more damage being done without doing the surgery first.
Did you have the surgery?
They say in the material that lots of times doctors wait before surgery. The average wait time trying other treatments is 7months, so I guess, I am lucky. I just coming back not having any improvement. How about you?
Has your ability to do athletic activities returned?

Jean
