swelling in front of kneecap
My husband is 69 years old and has been in great shape until about 4 weeks ago when his knee suddenly swelled up right on the front of the kneecap. He went to the doctor, who x-rayed it, said something about the bursa, prescribed an anti-inflammatory medication, and that was it. The doctor said he didn't want him to have to have it drained for fear of infection, but if the swelling didn't go down in a few weeks, he might need to go to an orthopedic doctor and see about having it drained. Strangely, he has no pain in the knee. He would prefer not to have it drained, but we have an overseas trip tentatively planned less than 2 months down the road and he's afraid if he doesn't have it drained the swelling will still be there, and if he does, it might get infected. He rested it for a couple of weeks, then decided that wasn't working so has been walking on the treadmill and (I think) trying to do too much. Input, please?
