Bothersome Wrist Injury
In early September I was playing golf and while hitting the ball I felt a painful "pop" in my wrist on the bottom / back of my wrist. Numerous x-rays showed no bone breaks and had full range of motion, only painful. After some basic orthopedic appointments my doctor told my I had most likely ruptured a tendon from the back of my little finger (he said it was VERY odd) and was in a cast for a total of 8 weeks. After getting the cast off everything seemed fine until a few days ago when I attemted to resume very easy and non-violent swinging of the golf club. Even before I attemted a swing, just the gripping of the club felt very uncomfortable. While attempting a few short practice swings I felt a series of small and mildly painful "pops".
When I place my index finger of my right hand on the back / outside of my wrist where the "bone bump" (sorry for the technical terms!) is and rotate my wrist a certain way I can feel the tendons "click" over the bone and move to the outside of the wrist. When making the motion sometimes it does not hurt at all--sometimes it is VERY bad.
I am looking for some help on what I should be discussing with my doctor. While I am confident that he is very good, the orthopedic office has over 30 doctors and I often feel very rushed. I do not want to be in a cast again unless it is going to help. Does this seem like surgery is needed? Please help!
Thank you!
