English knee structures name?

Hi, all,

I have, among others, an edema affecting what in Spanish (I am from Canary Islands, Spain, Europe) is known as Alerón Rotuliano, or patellar winglet, and I would like to know more about it. This structure is anthagonyst to another one, in the opposite side of the patella, one external and the other one medial. They contribute to stabilize the patella. Something I have found out is that surgery to correct disalignment of the patella sometimes cuts one of these winglets to help centering the cap.

I would like to see a picture or other type of media to learn more about these structures, but they are often missed in the medical illustrations. If I seek in the internet using Spanish name, I can not find any good picture. To search in English, I need to know the English name.

Can anyone help me?

the surgey ur referring to

the surgey ur referring to is a lateral release. it is a videoarthroscopic procedure to cut the lateral retinaculum and hopefully increase the pulling forces of the medial retinaculum and vastus medialis oblique to bring the knee cap into a more medial alignment. it is the surgery to cure cases of patellofemoral syndrome that are resistant to nonsurgical procedures.
