Scahpoid Fracture - Dorsal irregularity
Hi,
I broke my scaphoid a few years ago and it went unnoticed by Xray. It was eventually diagnosed with avascular necrosis and I was booked in for a cancellous bone grafft. It is almost 2 years scince to OP now and overall there is a big improvement in the area.
However I noticed at the time when the cast came off that I had a tiny lump on the back of my hand. It is only noticeable by touch and the back of the hand was always swollen even after initial injury (scar tissue I presume). It is more pronounced when drop my hand towards my elbow. The same feeling is there on my right hand but not to the same degree.
If you drew a line down the index finger to the wrist this is where you can locate the lump. I have read that this could be a wrist deformity from the break and subsequent misdiagnoses. Is this something I should be concerned about, I think it probably is going to be an issue later in life. I am 32 and quite active.
Is there anything that can be done to correct this to maybe avoid complications later on in life?
Regards
Chris
