Whiplash and Foot Pain

I was a passenger in a friend's pickup truck last March. We were traveling on the Interstate, came around a curve and there was a road crew at the bottom of the hill. There was a highway patrolman at the top of the hill that had his vehicle light flashing to warn drivers that traffic would have to merge or stop at the bottom of the hill. At the time, I was sitting crosslegged, shoes off, and reading an article to the driver. My head was down. I was aware that the truck had slowly come to a stop but I continued reading and was not distracted by it. Suddenly, we were hit from behind by a fully loaded moving van that was traveling 70 mph. The highway patrolman told us that at no time did the moving van driver engage his brakes. Initially, I thought we would be fine. I did have a massive headache instantly but figured that if I could stand up I was probably okay. We declined the offer to go by ambulence to a nearby hospital. The next morning, I drove myself to my local emergency room and had X-rays taken. According to the doctor, my neck was "cocked backward." Later I went to a chiropractor who took several X-rays and told me that my spine was "listing" to the right. I am 59 years old and have always been active. The last six months, I have been able to do less and less. I did see the previously mentioned chiropractor for 3 months. He was unable to help me. Subsequently, I began seeing an orthopedic doctor and began weekly visits to a massage therapist. I also received six weeks of physical therapy. In addition to pain and tight muscles in my neck and spine, my right foot (the side to which I'm leaning) has developed a huge bone spur and just walking around has become a challenge. Has anyone else developed a foot problem as a result of a whiplash injury? It makes sense to me that if most of my weight is on the right side that my right foot would develop calcification and begin to protest. I am grateful that I'm still here. The bed of the truck in which I was riding was crumpled like an accordian. Seatbelts definitely work. Sheryl
