Removing screws after hip surgery

My 2 1/2 year old daughter had surgery to correct her hip dysplasia with a plate and 3 screws. She has recovered and everything is fine now. The doctor recommends that we remove the plate and screws now, but he says that not all surgeons recommend this procedure so the choice is up to us. I am just looking for advice to take the screws and plate out or leave them in. Help!!

Dysplasia

I know it's some time since your post but my hip dysplasia was fixed around the age of 2½ with a plate and 2 screws. I lived with these with no problem until around the age of 20, when I did get some pain in the operated area so then had these removed. Even at that age I was told these would cause no harm, however these were apparently very loose and more or less fell out when I had the op, so probably were causing some of the discomfort.

I found afterwards that it was most likely to be the scarring from the initial op that was causing the problem (probably not the case with your daughter as cuts tend to be much smaller now).
