Ruptured biceps tendon

I ruptured my distal bicep tendon on July 29th. I waited till Sept. 4th to see doctor and I am so pissed at myself for waiting. Anyway, I had a bump from scar tissue and the doctor said he may be able to do the repair properly and remove the bump, so I had the surgery Thursday. I went back today for follow up and he said he couldn’t stretch the tendon to bone and attached it to lower muscle . I was very disappointed. He told me not to worry; that I would only loose about 7 or 8 % of my strength and never notice once I am all healed up.

Any info would be great.

Hey Alex,
This post is long overdue, but I would be curious to see how you are doing almost a year after the surgery.

I have treated patients who ruptured their biceps tendon and did not have a repair. The tendon reattaches to underlying tissue or bone and the patient goes on with their life. These patients don't normally complain of any substantial loss in strength. Plus they don't have the frustation that goes along with having the surgery and waiting the length of time needed till they can go about doing their normal activities.

If the surgery would have been done right after the injury more than likely the doctor could have reattached the tendon at it's original area, but I don't think you should have any trouble with the repair the doctor did.

Dave
