Symptoms in lower extremeties related to neck???
I had hx of what felt like upper/lower left sided trapezius pain for a # years with keyboarding or repetitive activities. Also left shoulder pain with repetitive activities and inability to sleep on left side since 2005. In 2006 symptoms increased and I also began to experience an intermittent sensation of throbbing or swelling (without heat/redness or acute type of pain) in my left knee. MRI of knee negative. About 6 months after knee symptoms I noticed my left foot felt tighter in my shoe and began to experience same type of throbbing or pulsing sensation in foot.
In 2007 I developed left adhesive capsulitis (froze Dec 2007). Whenever my left shoulder is painful the pain/sensation in my left knee and foot increases. The sensation has also now gone on to involve the left calf and and the sole of my foot (but not my thigh). After increasing hours on a gradual return to work I began to experience right sided shoulder symptoms. At the same time my neck began to clunk if my head was in one place for too long. I began to develop weakness on the right and some symptoms down the arm with one episode of burning down to wrist. Radiculopathy seems to have resolved although still have pain in the shoulder and weakness on right. I also began to get the same type of symptoms in my right calf as I had been experiencing in the left leg.
One doctor feels concomitant adhesivie capsulitis on right; another feels rotator cuff tendonitis + C5-6 cervical stenosis on the right and continued left adhesive capsulitis. Personally I think it's both but right adhesive capsulitis not as severe as left.
Ergonomic assessment identified prolonged static loading both arms; elevated shoulders bilaterally; head forward posture; rounded shoulders (using bi focals). Recommendations included lowering desk 7", etc. etc..
X ray of neck = loss of normal lordosis. Mild-mod loss of disc space C5-6 and assoc anterior/posterior osteophyte formation with mild-mod encroachment on the intervertebral foramina bilaterally. CT scan = minimal symmetrical posterior disc bulging C3-4. Minor rt uncovertebral joint spurring C5-6 causing mild narrowing of that foramen. Small disc protrusion right C5-6.
As far as the left adhesive capsulitis is concerned I've tried about everything and it has a mind of its own... it's getting better very slowly but surely. What I'm trying to understand is why I have symptoms in my legs that increases when I have increase pain in my shoulders/arms? vascular? neuropathic? Will it get worse or resolve? If the right sided problems are from the neck will they resolve, or get worse with time? What can I do to prevent? Any treatment or exercises (other than core) I can do that might help? Thx for any suggestions or info...
