Why did my doc give me a cheap camwalker when the best one is the same cost to me?
I need a castboot for a broken ankle, and my doctor will be giving me one in a week that looks flimsy. Someone told me that doctors make more profit from a cheap boot than from a better one because all boots get reimbursed the same amount by insurances but there is a big difference in cost to the doctor between a good one and a cheap one.
I heard the good ones are more stable and more comfortable. I found one from Germany (www.vacocast.com) that is as stable as a cast so you can start walking on it earlier than the others, and it has a hinge for physical therapy. I would much rather have this boot than the one he wants me to have.
I have 2 questions:
1. Is it true that my doctor may be offering me an inferior boot because he can make more money than he would with a high quality one?
2. Can I ask him to order one that I researched instead of accepting the one he wants me to have?
