Why is the U.S. so far behind in the treatment of hip arthritis? I'm finding all kinds of doctors in England, Australia, and Europe who do joint resurfacing. It seems to be very limited here in our country. I want this procedure done but I really don't want to have to travel so far. What do you suggest?1 year 13 weeks ago218

Whenever I lift my leg straight up in front or to the side, I feel (and I think I can hear) a snapping sound. It doesn't hurt but it's very annoying. I'm taking a ballet class and we use this movement often. What can cause this problem?3 years 23 weeks ago1217
Whenever I extend my leg and then bend it again, I get a painful snapping across the front of my hip. It's loud enough you can actually hear it. The orthopedic surgeon says it's a snapping hip syndrome. Nothing showed up on an X-ray. Would it be helpful to have a CT scan or an MRI to make sure that's really what's wrong?46 weeks 3 days ago279
When our son was much younger, he was diagnosed with Perthes disease. He was treated and everything seemed okay. Now that he's older (26-years old) it looks like he has some more hip problems. Now it's a deformed hip socket. Why didn't they fix this when he was a child?1 year 20 weeks ago227
When my mother went in to see her doctor for the follow-up visit after her hip fracture no one asked her anything about how she was doing at home. No one asked her anything about laundry, getting in and out of the tub, or even how far she can walk. This seems like a pretty important measure of how she's doing. Shouldn't someone be checking up on these kinds of activities?3 years 30 weeks ago375
When my mother broke her hip, she could barely walk and she was in incredible pain. She had fallen and cracked it. My mother-in-law was only having a bit of pain in her hip but when she went to the doctor, she was told she'd broken it and had to have surgery. How is that possible? My mother-in-law never fell or got hurt. She's active and plays tennis and stuff still. And, the doctor had to do special tests to see the break, he couldn't even see it on x-ray.50 weeks 2 days ago182
When I was in the hospital with an infection of my hip replacement, they did bunches and bunches of tests before they finally figured out what was wrong. Was this really necessary?1 year 9 weeks ago226
When I was a child, I had severe rheumatoid arthritis. Because there was so much damage to my hip joints, I have had both hips replaced. Both joints were replaced using cement. Now I am pregnant with my first child. Will it be safe to breast-feed the baby with the chemicals from the cement in my body?7 years 36 weeks ago340

When I was a child the doctor diagnosed me with hip dysplasia. Now that I'm older (53 years old), arthritis has set in. The X-rays show quite a few cysts in the hip socket. What causes these and how do I get rid of them?3 years 7 weeks ago472
When I had my knee replaced the therapists used cold therapy on it everyday. It really seemed to help with the pain and swelling. I just had a hip replacement. The cold treatment was never used on the hip. How come?5 years 29 weeks ago324
When I had my first hip replacement, they put me on a morphine-pump that I could operate myself. I could push the button every 10 minutes and get a small dose of the painkiller. The problem with that were the terrible side effects. It made me so nauseous, I could hardly stand up in therapy to walk. That was five-years ago. Now that I'm ready for my next hip surgery, I'm checking to see if things have improved. I hate the thought of going through that again.42 weeks 2 days ago171
When I got my total hip replacement five years ago, they told me to expect it to last 10 to 15-years. Since I'm only 69 years old, I'm hoping to outlive my implant by a long shot. Have there been any changes in the predictions in the last five years?1 year 2 weeks ago221
