Who would like to share their ACL reconstruction or meniscus injury and treatment?
Hi anyone,
I had an injury 7 months ago of a bucket handle meniscus tear and total acl tear. I have since had surgery, 5 months ago, of removal of lateral meniscus with 16 weeks of physio. The meniscus was removed because it was unrepairable and very bad. I cannot fully straighten my injured leg and feel a great deal of instability. The OS advises me to wear my acl brace, build my quads and hamstrings, and learn to live with it.
I have a limp, my "good" knee is painful (apparently due to over compensation) and I have many sounds (snap/crackle/pop - twist, crunch) coming from the injured knee. My physiotherapist says the leg is as straight as it will get and my uninjured knee hyperextends. The OS is not recommending ACL reconstruction due to my age (49) and indicates that it is a surgery for younger individuals and athletes. I cannot seem to accept that with modern medicine and technology that I have to adjust to this quality of life, which is going from a very active individual to finding it difficult standing for more than 5 minutes. Does anyone want to share their knee story?
