tendon and exercise (weights)

hi,
a month ago i injured my right biceps (connecting to my elbow), doctor told me the tendon is torn and suggested that i should undergo surgery. as its a bit costly, i am going to brave through it. i recently resumed my weight training (with the exception of bicep curls). is it possible for me to regain all of my strength? would i cause further damage to the bicep if i continue to exercise (bench press, shoulder press, deadlifts)? are there any other issues i should be aware of if i do not go through the surgery?
