Spinal Fusion Age Limit?

I am 31 years old and have had lower back pain for the past six years now (diagnosed with DDD four years ago) and my pain has become a constant. I can't bend over, stand, or even walk. I had my first lumbar epidural recently, but the pain was back in less than a week. When I brought up spine fusion with my Dr. he said that he wouldn't dream of doing a fusion on someone “my age.” Is this going to be a common response or should I seek another opinion?
