I hear that while spinal cord stimulators may help with pain, they have batteries that have to be changed every few years. Is this true?

Yes, presently the nonrechargeable units last two to five years, depending on their use. The newer spinal cord stimulator systems have rechargeable batteries that can last ten to 25 years depending on their use.
