Which is a better way to deal with painful degenerative disc disease: give it more time and stay with the conservative approach without surgery or go for the spinal fusion (which is kind of a final no going back step for me). 1 week 6 days ago 12
Can you help me understand something? I had a spinal fusion surgery for degenerative disc disease six months ago. The surgeon gave me a thumbs up based on some test scores that showed improvement for me. Maybe I'm being a spoiled person but I'm actually disappointed in the results. Maybe I should have stuck with giving it some more time and trying other nonsurgical methods of treatment. What would you have advised? 1 week 6 days ago 14
Surgery -- Or No Surgery for Chronic Low Back Pain 2 weeks 8 hours ago 132
I live in a small town in a rural state. I know I need surgery for a severe problem with lumbar stenosis. According to my local doc here, I would probably have a laminectomy and/or spinal fusion. How do I go about finding a place to go for this? There are "spine centers" listed on-line in two states near me. Does it make a difference which one I go to -- or is this the kind of problem that is treated the same everywhere so there's no need to look around? 2 weeks 6 days ago 22
I am 75-years-old with a very bad (painful!) case of spinal stenosis in my low back. I've had two weeks of physical therapy with no change in my symptoms. I'm starting to look for a neurosurgeon to put an end to this misery. But everyone I speak with tells me to avoid back surgery at all costs and to stick with conservative care for at least six months. How does a person do that when the pain is excruciating? 2 weeks 6 days ago 21
